It is easy to get caught up in the daily consumerism of our lives. Keeping up with the Jonses is almost taken for granted. But if we always want more, when will we ever have enough? David Delisle answers that question with “only buy the awesome stuff”. The awesome stuff is the things that really matter to you, that make you light up. If you identify that then you’re able to focus your money journey and find the place of “enough”. To teach kids (and adults) about the awesome stuff, David wrote a graphic novel called The Golden Quest, and it makes learning about money fun! We had a great conversation about it. Here are some of my key takeaways.
Key Ideas
Only buy the awesome stuff: As mentioned about, you have to figure out what the awesome stuff is for you, but once you know what that is you can focus on your spending and really come to a place of “enough”.
Always save first: The only way to become wealthy is to save your money. So before you spend your money put some aside for savings. This will ensure you always have money.
Put your money to work TODAY: Investing is the only way to build wealth. And honestly, what you invest in is less important in many cases than having the habit of investing. Get in the habit of investing NOW!
Give and you’ll have more: As counterintuitive as it sounds, giving your money away will result in you having more. Not just spiritually, but in actuality. Studies have shown that the more you give the more you receive, but more importantly the mindset that you have abundance enough to give really helps you grow.
