Bonus Tip
Here is a bonus tip I didn't get to in the episode.
We touched on this lightly in the episode, but I want to make sure it is clear. The thing that gives you, the renter, power in negotiating rent is your willingness to move. If you aren’t prepared to move, you have no power. It can’t be an empty poker face. If you negotiate and they say too bad, start packing. Give them notice that you’re leaving, but then subtly let them know you’d be willing to stay for a reduced rate. That might just turn them around. Don’t go for 50% off, but as much as a 10% rent reduction isn’t unheard of!
