Listen to the Podcast:

Credit is one of the most mysterious things about finance. The number often appears to be random, but there is some method to the madness. In this episode, Marc Jenkins and I sit down to discuss credit. To pull back the curtain on how the sausage is made, offer some tips, and save your bacon (too many meat metaphors?) with your credit.

Key Ideas

  • What is credit and why is it essential for your financial future?

  • Credit reports and credit scores are different, and knowing that matters!

  • There are some simple steps anyone can take to build your credit.

  • You can use Credit Karma and free credit reports to track your progress

  • Freezing your credit is one of the best ways to protect yourself from identity theft

Bonus Tip

Here is a bonus tip I didn't get to in the episode.

  • When you are going to have your credit pulled, ask them which credit bureau they are going to look at before they pull it. If this person uses the bureau that likes you the least (my score is always lowest with TransUnion), then it might make more sense to go with a different lender depending on where your score is at (and the lenders available). Remember, the higher the score, the lower the interest rate in most cases.
